How to get to Bellagio by public service

Public transport

Bellagio is located in a privileged position in the middle of Lake Como and can be easily reached by both public and private transport. Below you will find useful information to reach Bellagio from different locations and airports.

WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM MALPENSA AIRPORT VIA LECCO

Step 1 – Milan Malpensa / Milan Central Station

  • 1a“Malpensa Express” is a train leaving from Malpensa Terminal 1 (below the Ground Floor / Arrivals area) to Milano Central Station. Purchase your ticket to Varenna, it will be two different tickets, one from Malpensa to Milano Centrale and one from Milano Centrale to Varenna. Do not forget to validate your tickets in the appropriate machines.
    Frequency: approximately every hour.
    Journey time from Malpensa to Milano Central: 54 minutes.
    Cost of ticket: approx. €20,00 per person.
  • 1bAutostradale bus from Malpensa to Milan Central Station
    Frequency: Every 20 minutes.
    Journey time: 60 minutes.Cost of ticket: € 10,00.

Step 2 Milan Central Station / Varenna:

Take the train to Varenna (on the eastern coastline, opposite Bellagio). * Please note that the final destination of the train is indicated and not the intermediate stops. For trains to Lecco and Varenna the final destination is Sondrio or Tirano. Do not forget to validate your tickets in the appropriate machines.
Frequency: Trains from Milan to Lecco and Varenna approx. 1 hour.
Journey time: approx. 1 hour 5 minutes.
Cost of ticket: € 7,10 2nd class per person.

Step 3Varenna / Bellagio:

From Varenna to Bellagio, exit the station and either take a taxi to the boat landing stage (approx. cost €10) or turn left and walk down the steps to the road at the bottom. To avoid steps you can follow the main road. Turn right until you come to a crossroads (there’s a bar on your right). Turn left and cross the road – you are now on the main road. Take the immediate right hand turning and walk down towards the lake. At the bottom, turn left and you’ll see the boat ticket office on the right. It will take max 10 min. on foot.

There is a choice of either boats or car ferries from Varenna to Bellagio – both are 15 minutes crossings and the only difference is the different point of arrival in Bellagio. The ferry and boat landing stages in Bellagio are within a 5 minutes’ walk of each other right in the centre of the historical part of the town.
Car ferry frequency: approx. every hour.
Boat frequency: less frequent.
Journey time: 15 minutes.
Cost of ticket: € 4,60 per person.

If your destination is on the way Lecco – Bellagio or in one of the eastern hamlets of Bellagio, from Lecco city you can take a bus that leaves outside the railway station. We suggest you to ask your host more information on the position of your destination.

WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM MALPENSA AIRPORT VIA COMO

Step 1 – Milan Malpensa / Saronno

Milan Malpensa / Milano Cadorna

“Malpensa Express” is a train leaving from Malpensa Terminal 1 (below the Ground Floor / Arrivals area) to Saronno or Milano Cadorna. Purchase your ticket to Como Lago, it will be two different tickets, one from Malpensa to Saronno or Milano Cadorna and one from Saronno or Milano Cadorna to Como Lago. Do not forget to validate your tickets in the appropriate machines.
Frequency: approximately every hour.
Journey time from Malpensa to Saronno: 17 minutes.
Journey time from Malpensa to Milano Cadorna: 38 minutes.
Cost of ticket: approx. € 18,00 per person.

Step 2Saronno – Milano Cadorna / Como Lago Nord

Change trains at SARONNO or MILANO CADORNA to Como Lago Nord. Do not forget to validate your tickets in the appropriate machines.
Frequency: Connecting trains to Como approx. every half hour.
Journey time from Saronno to Como: 39 minutes.
Journey time from Milano Cadorna to Como: 60 minutes.

Step 3 Como / Bellagio

There are different travel options to get to Bellagio from Como Lago Nord railway station:

  • 3aBus C30 (easiest & cheapest)

Buses depart just outside the train station. Use the exit toward the lakeside and you find the bus stop at your left.
Tickets from the bus station ticket office.
Frequency: approximately every hour.
Journey time to Bellagio: 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Cost of ticket: € 4,10.
Bus stop in Bellagio is on the lakeshore, between Villa Melzi gardens and the car ferry terminal.

  • 3bBoat or Hydrofoil: (hydrofoil is the quickest means of lake transport)

5 minutes’ walk to the lakefront and boat ticket office (Cross the road to the lake opposite the station and turn left). Tickets to be purchased prior to boarding.

  • Hydrofoil:

Frequency: Every two hours. They are more frequent at lunchtime and early evening
Journey time: 45/50 minutes.
Cost of ticket: € 14,80 per person.

  • Boat:

Frequency: Infrequent service.
Journey time: 2 hours.
Cost of ticket: € 10,40 per person.

  • 3cTaxi:

You can book a taxi from Bellagio and the driver will meet you at the arrival platform in the station.

 

WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM LINATE AIRPORT:

Step 1 Autostradale bus from Malpensa to Milan Central Station

Frequency: Every 20 minutes.
Journey time: 60 minutes.
Cost of ticket: € 10,00.

WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM BERGAMO ORIO AL SERIO AIRPORT:

Step 1Bergamo airport / Bergamo railway station

Shuttle Buses for Bergamo railway station depart from outside the Arrivals Terminal. Tickets to be purchased at the Bergamo Tourist office inside the terminal, at newsagent and at ticket machine. The bus stops at the railway station.
Frequency: Every 20 minutes
Journey time: 15/20 minutes.
Cost of ticket: € 2,60.

Step 2Bergamo Station / Lecco

Due to works between Bergamo and Ponte San Pietro, it will be necessary to take replacement buses to the train station in Ponte San Pietro, from where you take a train to Lecco.
We advise you to purchase your ticket directly to Varenna.
Frequency: approx. every hour.
Cost of ticket: € 6,00 per person.
Please note that because of this inconvenience there might be delays and complications, the journey could last between 1h30 – 2 hours.

Frequency about every hour.
Journey time: 1 hour and 18 min.
Cost of ticket: € 5,80 per person 2nd class.

Step 2:  Bus service from Asso to Bellagio (C36)

Tickets at the café next door the railway station
Cost of the ticket € 3,30.
2 buses a day during winter and 3 during summer. No service on Sundays and holidays,

FROM LUGANO AGNO AIRPORT OR LUGANO DOWNTOWN:

Shuttle bus service from the Airport Lugano Agno to Lugano downtown. The service is not very frequent, you can find information on: www.shuttle-bus.com tel. +41.79.2214243.

From Lugano there is a bus service to Menaggio (C12 line) and from Menaggio a boat service to Bellagio

 

IMPORTANT:

Train tickets must always be purchased before travelling. You must validate your ticket in the yellow machines usually to be found at the end of the platform, unless you booked the ticket online. During your journey, an inspector will check your tickets and if you are found without a ticket or an unvalidated ticket, you will be fined
