Parking in Bellagio
From April to the end of October everyday (from November to the end of March just on holidays and pre-holidays) from 9.40am to 5am the following day, the historic centre of the town becomes a pedestrian area and access is controlled by a monitoring system. There are another two limited traffic areas, one in Loppia hamlet and another in Pescallo hamlet, from April to the end of October
you are not allowed to enter between 10 am to 6 am the following day. Guests staying in hotels in these areas (see the roads in red on the map here below) have to register their car license plate upon arrival in order to let the hotel forward the registration to the competent authority. In case of non-reporting of this information, there will be a penalty to be paid.
On the map of the peninsula, you will see a P against a white background, showing the parking areas (some free and some on payment, fee per hour is € 1,50) outside the center of Bellagio.
Once the car is parked, depending on the area where you are, you can set out to discover the characteristic suburbs around you, discovering a part of Bellagio perhaps still unknown to you, or, if the historical centre is your destination, you can reach it as following:
- Parking areas in the green square box. If you have chosen to park in one of these car parks, you are now in the suburb of Oliverio, a strategic point for discovering the hamlets of Pescallo and Oliverio and for following the suggested itinerary which leads to the discovery of the hamlets of Bellagio. If, on the other hand, you choose to head straight towards the town centre, you can reach it with an easy 15 minutes’ walk following via Valassina or with a pleasant walk of about 20/25 minutes through the characteristic hamlet of Pescallo (this second option, due to the uphill stairs, is not suitable for people with walking difficulties and
prams/strollers).
Touristic train stop in Via Valassina on the opposite side of the road, near the bus stop. - Parking areas in the pink box. From here you can easily reach the hamlet of Loppia where you can find one of the entrances to the gardens of Villa Melzi and the stop for the touristic train (entrance fee for the gardens of Villa Melzi – ticket valid all day). The historical centre is about 10/15 minutes on foot, on the opposite side of Loppia.
- Parking areas in the red box. From these car parks you can easily visit the neighbouring hamlets of Regatola, Taronico and Aureggio and go up towards the hamlets of Suira and Casate. The itinerary of the hamlets of Bellagio also passes through here. The historical
centre can be reached with a simple 30 minutes’ walk, crossing the promontory and reaching the Como branch of the lake, where you can choose to follow the main road or go down to the hamlet of Loppia and walk through the beautiful gardens of Villa Melzi to reach the historical centre (entrance fee for the gardens of Villa Melzi – ticket valid all day).
Tourist train stop in the hamlet of Loppia. - Parking areas in the blue box. If you have chosen to park here, you are now in the characteristic hamlet of San Giovanni, where you can visit the Museum of Navigational Instruments and see the “House of the Flying Bikes”. The historical centre can be reached on foot in about 40 minutes, with a pleasant walk through the gardens of Villa Melzi (entrance fee – ticket valid all day).
